"I’m ignoring…why everything’s so frightening…"
I remember reading Mortis Ghost’s thoughts on Sugar, and how she might’ve suffered from a traumatic experience. What if that experience was finding out about the origins of her element?
That would certianly mess up a person…poor girl. :-(
It made me sad to see this blog so quiet, but you can’t help the whim of fandoms. I decided to be the change I wanted in the world and tried to make a drawing.
I think the few submissions are in part due to the vagueness of the prompt; the artist doesn’t want to be told “I don’t want to give you too many details because I want you to be creative,” but without the right trigger, no creative juices will flow. Structure and goals are useful.
But, I took it as a prompt, not a set of instructions. It made me think something, so I drew that, even if it’s “wrong.” I just hope it comes out at the right size.
The Batter stood still, his right hand still gripping his blood-covered bat tightly, gazing at the mangled body of Dedan that laid at his feet. The battle with the monstrous Guardian of Zone 1 was over. It took the Batter and his Add-On Alpha about an hour of fierce combat before the Guardian finally collapsed on the floor in a pool of blood, mumbling a few words and finally letting out his last breath, never to rise again.
The Batter took in several deep breaths, before placing his bat on the floor and surveying the wounds that had been inflicted on him during the battle. It wasn’t really serious, nothing a few luck tickets couldn’t cure. Alpha had also taken much damage during the battle, but had a quick recovery after the Batter used some of his luck tickets on the Add-On.
While he waited for his wounds to recover, the Batter sat on the floor, and glanced up at the still body of Dedan. As he stared at the body, an inkling of a memory, and a small surge of emotion, came to him suddenly. He tried to ignore this feeling. No. The memories of his past self was impure, as was all emotion and sentiments. He must not give in to these feelings. They were impure, all impurities must be destroyed.
He felt Alpha prodding his shoulder gently. A voice seemed to come from the Add-On, whispering to him. “I promised to bring him on a pedalo ride.” whispered the voice, “It was going to be fun, he would have loved it.”
No no no. Not this. Not now.
He lifted one hand and shoved the Add-On away from him, looking very much annoyed. He had almost forgotten that the three Add-Ons he was to collect from each Zone to assist him in battle were made up of the memories and promises of each Guardian. These memories and promises had been lost when each of the Guardians had been corrupted, and took the form of spherical Add-Ons that wondered around each of the Zones aimlessly. Alpha was the representation of Dedan’s old uncorrupted memories and the promises he made on how he would rule his Zone. Although it was of great help to the Batter during combat, it annoyed him greatly that the Add-On would occasionally emit some of Dedan’s memories. It reminded the Batter of the time before he became the Purifier, of memories he did not want to recall.
But if the Add-On was once a part of Dedan, why did it assist in the assassination of the Guardian? Ah, no. The reason to this is also associated with the Batter’s past life. The man shook his head. No, he must not remember, he must not think about his past……..But the memories came in fast and thick, he couldn’t hold it back.
The Batter recalled that he was once the King, the Emperor, the Monarch of the land, ruling alongside his beautiful Queen. This was before the creation of the Zones, just after the Great War, when the world was still in rubbles. He was young at that time, being one of the very few survivors of the Great War. Both he and the Queen, who was also a young girl during that time, were the only survivors born from parents of noble rank. They were both crowned King and Queen by the rest of the survivors, and given the responsibility to rule and rebuild the devastated land.
The Guardians of each Zone were chosen from some of the remaining survivors. Before the Zones were created and before each Guardian was left to rule over the Zones, they all gave a vow, a vow to forever be responsible to protect their Zones as well as the people, the Elsens who resided in the Zones. This vow, sadly, had been lost after the corruption of the three Guardians and was now included among the lost promises within each of the Add-Ons.
The Batter, using the lost memories and promises of Dedan as a justification, managed to manipulate the Add-On into following him. “The Guardian who had once held you dear has left you, hasn’t he? He no longer remembers the promises he made before and during the rebuilding of this world, and the creation of the Zones. He has abandoned you, forgotten you, no longer does he rule this Zone the way he promised. Come with me, broken memories and promises of the Guardian of Zone 1, I am the Purifier, the one who will cleanse this world of evil and corruption. I will purge the world so that it is no more, there will be no more impurities, no more darkness, and you will become pure too.”
The Batter seemed to shiver at this recollection, he breathed in sharply and buried his face in his hands. No, he must not remember anymore. He was a completely different person now, he was pure, he was a savior. He was no longer the King, the Protector and Provider of the land, the one who was once a kind and just leader. That wasn’t him anymore. He is the Batter now, cold and unfeeling. The Manipulator, the Liar, the Destroyer, the Purifier.
He stood up, getting ready to leave. It wouldn’t do to have his memories and emotions cloud up his mind. It would cause him to abandon his sacred mission, he would get too emotional and too attached to the land he once protected as a monarch. He turned towards the entrance of the office room.
Alpha drifted along behind him, “Your majesty, may I bring your child on a pedalo ride one day?” again the Add-On whispered, “Ah, of course, of course. I would take very good care of Hugo, your majesty. He’ll be perfectly safe with me, my King.”
Again the Batter shoved the Alpha away from him, much more violently this time. Those were the very words spoken by Dedan to him. That was before the Guardian became corrupted, and before his son had fallen ill. This promise was never kept because of those two tragic events. Hugo never got the ride a pedalo with Dedan. The words invoked a surge of emotion within him, a feeling of sadness, perhaps with a bit of regret. He hated it.
However, the feelings stirred within him made him turn to face the dead body of Dedan one last time. It seemed that his memories as the King had brought back some of nobility that he had discarded when he became ‘pure’. He couldn’t just leave the body of the Guardian to rot on the floor like that, to be consumed by the whiteness of the emptiness that was coming and the monstrous Secretaries that would soon take over the Purified Zone. Dedan had served him well, and had once taken very good care of his Zone and his little Elsens. He deserved a rightful burial, of a sort.
The Batter walked back towards the body, and, summoning all his inhuman strength, carried the huge corpse of the former Guardian out of the office room and out of the building. He walked along the edge of the meat rivers that surrounded the building for a while, before finding what he needed, a large pedalo resting at the edge of the blood-red river.
He placed the corpse of Dedan into the pedalo and, using his metal bat, smashed a small hole into the bottom of the boat. He gave the pedalo a push, and watched as it drifted away from him, carried by the current of the meat river. As he had expected, the liquid meat began filling the pedalo from the hole, and the pedalo slowly sank into the meat, taking the giant corpse of Dedan with it.
It seemed like a strange, rather morbid, kind of burial, but the Batter felt that it was appropriate. Dedan had wanted to bring Hugo on a pedalo ride, but was unable to do so due to his corruption and Hugo’s illness. Somehow it seemed appropriate to allow Dedan to ride a pedalo one last time before allowing his body to be settled under the river of meat, one of his creations in Zone 1. The Batter felt that this was a decent burial for Dedan, and the best he could manage in that situation.
Alpha nudged the Batter gently again, and laid itself on his back. It seemed to be almost sad to see its former owner’s death, watching his copse slowly sink into the rivers of meat.
“Do not vex yourself,” said the Batter to the Add-On, running one hand gently over its cold, metallic surface as if he was stroking it, “Your Guardian has been purified. No longer will he be corrupted or remain within the darkness. You, too, are pure now, Alpha, just as Dedan is free from anymore corruption. Come, we must leave for the other Zones to complete our holy mission. This land is now pure.”
The red box that was the portal back to the Nothingness was floating nearby. The Batter took one last look at the sinking pedalo before placing his hand on the box, vanishing out of the Zone just as the white void and eerie whispers consumed the land.
A fanfic containing a bunch of OFF headcanons I have, I guess. I’m sorry it’s so long, and so terribly written.
